FWO approved a research project by Prof. MB D’hooghe and Prof dr J De Keyser in collaboration with Prof. J Raes

The Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) has recently approved a research project by Prof. MB D’hooghe (C4N, VU Brussel, National MS Center Melsbroek) and Prof dr J De Keyser (C4N, VU Brussels, UZ Brussel) in collaboration with Prof. J Raes (VIB, KU Leuven). The aim of this project is to investigate the role of the gut flora (the gut microbiome) in individuals with multiple sclerosis, an inflammatory and neurodegenerative disease with substantial heterogeneity. The protocol of this project is based upon preliminary findings of a pilot project, the MICROMS study, a collaboration between the UZ Brussel, the National Center Melsbroek and the lab of Prof. J Raes, to which tens of persons with multiple sclerosis and volunteers have taken part. The FWO is providing resources for 4 years.
