Jacques De Keyser is co-founder and one of the directors of the Center for Neurosciences of VUB. He completed his training in Neurology at the VUB and the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London (UK). From 1986 to 1994 he worked as neurologist at the University Hospital Brussel as assistant professor and associate professor (VUB). Between 1994 and 1995 he assumed the position of Scientific Director CNS International at the Janssen Research Foundation. Between 1995 and 2008 he was full professor and chair of the Neurology Department at the University Medical Center Groningen (The Netherlands). Since October 2008 he is full professor of Neurology and Neurosciences (gewoon hoogleraar), head of the Neurology Department at the University Hospital Brussel (VUB), and honorary professor Neurology at the University Medical Center Groningen. His research mainly focuses on the acute management of stroke, the role of astrocytes in multiple sclerosis and factors that influence the disease course in multiple sclerosis.
