My research focusses on the clinical evaluation of lower-limb prosthetic devices during daily activities. The physical effort and cognitive load during walking, stair ascending and descending, hill climbing, sitting and standing with the novel prosthetic devices is of interest.
I am currently evaluating a new generation of ortho-prosthesis, funded by the European H2020 project Cyberlegs Plus Plus (http://www.cyberlegs.eu/). This study is the continuation of the FP7-ICT project, involving research groups from Italy and Slovenia. Mechanical engineers from the VUB (Joost Geeroms and Louis Flynn, dpt. MECH) are designing, developing, building and fine-tuning a transfemoral prosthesis that will be evaluated by research group MFYS.
